How to Set Up IPTV on Roku

Setting up IPTV on Roku is possible but requires a different approach than Firestick or Android TV because Roku has a more limited selection of IPTV player apps. This guide covers Roku Streaming Stick, Roku Ultra, and Roku TV models. You can use compatible IPTV player apps available in the Roku Channel Store or screen mirroring from a phone or computer.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

    Connect your Roku device

Plug your Roku Streaming Stick or Roku Ultra into an HDMI port on your TV and connect the power adapter. If you have a Roku TV, simply turn it on. Connect the Roku to your home Wi-Fi network through the initial setup wizard.

  2. 2

    Open the Roku Channel Store

From the Roku home screen, navigate to Streaming Channels and select Search Channels. Search for compatible IPTV player apps. Note that the selection is more limited compared to Firestick or Android TV.

  3. 3

Install a compatible IPTV player app

Search for IPTV Smarters or a similar IPTV player app that supports M3U playlists or Xtream Codes credentials. Select Add Channel to install the app. Wait for the installation to complete, then open the app from your Roku home screen channel list.

  4. 4

Enter your M3U or Xtream credentials

Open the installed IPTV player app and add a new playlist. If your provider uses Xtream Codes, enter the server URL, username, and password from your activation email. If your provider uses an M3U playlist, enter the playlist URL instead. Save the configuration and wait for the channel list to load.

  5. 5

Load the EPG (Electronic Program Guide)

After the channel list loads, allow the app to fetch the EPG data. This may take a few minutes depending on the number of channels. Once loaded, the EPG displays program schedules and showtimes in a grid or list view, making it easy to browse what is currently playing and what is coming up. If the EPG does not load automatically, look for a refresh or update EPG option in the app's settings.

  6. 6

    Browse and stream content

Once the channel list and EPG are loaded, browse live channels and on-demand content using the Roku remote. Use the directional pad to navigate and the OK button to select. The Roku remote's shortcut buttons can also be mapped in some apps.

  7. 7

    Alternative: Use screen mirroring

If a suitable IPTV player app is not available in the Roku Channel Store, you can use screen mirroring. On Android or Windows, open the device's screen mirroring feature and select your Roku device. Play IPTV on your phone or PC and it will mirror to the TV.

You're ready to stream

Once your channel list loads, browse live channels, EPG, and on-demand content. If you experience buffering, check your internet speed and switch to a wired connection where possible.
